STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD: Be A Donut Delivery Person

Competition is fierce in many industries and I love stories about people who get creative to set themselves apart from the rest in order to get noticed.

I recently saw a post on Facebook about a Lithuanian marketing professional living in San Francisco who posed as a donut delivery man in order to get his resume in front of CEO’s, CMO’s and marketing VP’s at the Bay Area’s top ad agencies and tech companies.

He delivered a box of pastries to each company. When the boxes were opened the lids read “Most resumes end up in the trash. Mine – in your belly.” The well-crafted idea scored him at least two interviews and attention from several news sites such as Ad Week, Thrillist, Business Insider, ABC News and many more.

Another example of creative marketing is when a financial advisor in California created a couple of music videos and posted them on YouTube. Brittney Castro of Financially Wise Inc. was trying to be creative to attract clients to her financial planning firm. Due to her creativity and financial savvy she’s been mentioned and/or featured in publications such as Entrepreneur, Young Millionaires, Modern Woman, Darling, Redbook, Journal of Financial Planning, LA Parent, Woman World and more!

Creative ideas I’ve heard financial wholesalers doing are offering their advisors poker lessons, golf lessons, car shows, wine tastings, clam bakes and even food truck events. If you want to get creative do some research, brainstorm with a friend and come up with a creative way to stand out!

Depending on your target market, I think an annual dodge ball or kickball tournament would be super fun! If your work virtually, like me, you have to come up with virtual fun. I guess if I was into Clash of Clans maybe I’d use that to get into more offices. I should be assigning all of my scheduler’s to different clans and watch the business pour in. You never know … that marketing campaign may be coming.

No matter what it is, just have fun with it. Research your target market to determine what type of activities they are into. Creative fun attracts clients because who doesn’t want to have fun and who isn’t impressed by creative outside-of-the-box thinking. Need more creative ideas on how you can stand out from the crowd, shoot me an email. I’m always happy to brainstorm ideas. You never know what idea could take your business to the next level.
