Another new year. Another clean slate. Another chance to set out and follow your dreams. The beginning of a new year sparks feelings of motivation, rejuvenation and excitement. What are your goals for 2015? Do you plan on building your business? Do you plan on working more or do you plan on working less? Do you plan on starting a new business, or a new job or going back to school? Whatever your dreams are there is no time like the present to follow them. The truth is … every day is a clean slate, every day is another chance to follow your dreams! So get organized, write down a plan and follow it. Put your plan … your goals … your dreams where you can see them each and every day.
A lot of people have great intentions of doing great things. Especially at the beginning of a new year. They make their goals and then forget about them, and a year later they think – ‘Shoot wasn’t I supposed to be further along than this?’
You can speak with several successful people and they may each have their own way of insuring they’ll meet their goals each year. For me – the first thing I do is get organized. I like to write down my goals and then write down exactly what I need to do to achieve them. Then I schedule time in my calendar to work on those goals. I treat that time just like I would an appointment. Some people treat their goals as the least important thing and your goals should be one of the most important. You are important and therefore your goals should be important!
Stick to the schedule you set yourself and keep track of your progress. The thing with successful people is they know greatness takes time. They know that it can take weeks, months and even years to achieve their goals but they stick to it. Think about your current goals – are these things that you could’ve worked on last year? Or the year before? How much could you have accomplished if you would’ve just done it way back when? Hindsight is 20/20 but the good news is you still have today! Start today so that on January 12, 2016 you aren’t looking back saying “If only I would’ve started this last year.”
So for 2015 you are going to write down your plan and stick to it. Make yourself reminders if you need to that say “Stick to the plan!” You might be surprised at how the ‘you’ of today can motivate the ‘you’ of tomorrow.
